Ian Beech

Position:
NC Member

Ian Beech, born in North Wales, moved to Crediton in Devon in 2014, having lived in Somerset for twenty years. A former public librarian & more recently a freelance professional photographer, he now commits his time to writing, performing & promoting performance poetry.

Ian is a familiar face on the South West poetry scene, performing at numerous events and festivals across the region and beyond. As host of the renowned Poetry Island at the Blue Walnut Cafe in Torquay, he performs alongside many of the UK’s top performance poets and the South West’s finest spoken word
artists.

Between 2015 & 2017 he hosted his own Poetry Islanders radio show for Soundart Radio at Dartington Hall, highlighting all that is best in Devon performance poetry.

In 2015 he published his first collection, ‘On the Road to Ollantaytambo’. A second collection is nearing completion. He is by turn, tender, funny and downright polemical. Be prepared for a mixture of comic and serious themes, not to mention the occasional rant.

For WAG UK, in addition to performing his poetry, Ian has been pleased to dust off some of his archival monochrome portraits, produced while he was studying for Royal Photographic Society qualifications.
