Sebastian Elliott is of Jamaican nationality and was born on the 29th of March, 1985 in Montego Bay, St. James. He studied art at Northern Caribbean University (NCU) under the tutelage of professor Gerald Wray. During his tenure at NCU, Elliott obtained departmental awards for being most outstanding in his field and also had a history of academic excellence and maintained a 4.0 GPA. He later studied under the tutelage and mentorship of world acclaimed Jamaican master painter, Prof. the Hon. Barrington Watson, OJ, CD, RA. He is presently the founder and director of Jamaica Academic Institute and Mandeville Art Foundation. He also operates an art program which seeks to develop the artistic talents of individuals.
He has participated in numerous local and international art exhibitions in countries such as the United States, Canada, India, Trinidad, Bahamas, Cayman Islands and his homeland Jamaica. His works are a part of several private and co-operate collections both locally and internationally including: The Bank of Jamaica, Scotia Bank, Northern Caribbean University and Symmetry, one of the world’s largest American-based network marketing companies. He has also done many portraits for people locally and internationally. He also participated in an International group exhibition which was held by Art Niğde International. The exhibition took place in September 2019 in İstanbul Turkey.
His works on numerous occasions have been the spotlight of many media houses such as: Television Jamaica (TVJ), CVM, Pace Television, CWC Television, Hope Television, NCU Television, NCU RADIO and the Jamaica Gleaner, Observer Northern Caribbean University Weekender, the Star, Mandeville Weekly Newspaper, The Tennessee Tribune and received numerous honorable mentions in 2018 on radio talk shows in Kenya, Zimbabwe and other parts of Africa, as well as Europe and America. Elliott’s work transcends from his many experiences and his strong academic training is evident in his work. According to an article in The Jamaica Gleaner dated September 4, 2011, “Elliott is on his journey to become a world-renowned artist who contributes to nation building through art and education.” During his studies under the late Professor Gerald Wray, he obtained the necessary training regarding the rudiments of the profession and mentorship. Professor Wray played an instrumental part in the enhancement of his artistic, philosophical and educational development. As a patriotic Jamaican he endeavors to represent his country wherever his work goes and like his teacher and mentor Barrington Watson to do his utmost best.
His work is currently on display in the 20th Incheon Metropolitan City Art Exhibition in South Korea. He was also invited to stage a solo exhibition at one of Jamaica’s most prestigious hotels, the R Hotel, which is currently ongoing and ends on November 30, 2019.
He also is expected to participate in the Artquake 3 exhibition slated for April 2020 in Istanbul.
He is well written about in Jamaican newspapers. His last three media publications were published in the Star and The Gleaner. He was featured in an article in the star on July 16, 2019, entitled, “Stop Prostituting Your Work”. On October 5, 2019, he was featured in an article entitled “Sebastian Elliott: Living His Dream” and his most recent feature was on November 17, 2019, entitled “Exhibition Honours Barrington Watson”
