I grew up in rural New Zealand, surrounded by nature, close to native bush and access to many beaches. Family holidays always involved travelling around New Zealand and exploring new environments.I was fascinated by discovering new surroundings, and found inspiration in natural materials that I could turn into artistic creations. I was,and still am,an avid collector of interesting items found when exploring.

For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in the forms and patterns, textures, colour, light, depth and drama found in nature. I enjoy exploring these characteristics and influences in many types of artwork, allowing materials to speak for themselves. I prefer to let my artworks evolve as they are being made – to find their own “voice”, rather than impose a preconceived idea upon them.
