Norman is a self taught artist who has sold his work in Europe and the United States. His first love was painting landscapes which he ‘spoilt’ when he put people into them. So after early retirement, he joined a life drawing class in the hopes of improving that aspect of his work. But figure drawing is arguably the most difficult subject an artist will encounter, for when it comes to the human body, artists are painfully critical; the proportions of a building or a tree do not have to be drawn perfectly to look authentic, but even the slightest error in human proportions will be easily detected. And so Norman has become more and more engrossed in the challenge that that brings and now just loves to draw and paint people, either in the life class or as they go about their daily lives.
